The Man Who Beat Kron

Sergio Moraes of Alliance.

Just a quick photo of the winner of the 2008 black belt middleweight division, Sergio Moraes. Moraes popped up on the radar of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu world this year out of nowhere when he beat Rickson Gracie‘s son Kron Gracie. Although it was Kron’s first match as a black belt, it is said that he had not lost in 50 previous competition outings.

Moraes is a member of Fabio Gurgel’s Alliance team in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and has also fought mixed martial arts in the MTL promotion in Brazil. He defeated several very tough opponents in the BJJ Mundials tournament this past weekend in Long Beach, including Paragon / Alliance competitor Bill Cooper, on his way to becoming world champion.

Congratulations to Moraes and Alliance. The next question is, “What other secret weapons does Fabio Gurgel have in store for the world of BJJ!?!”
