ADCC Superfight Opponent for Roger Gracie Uncertain Again

It is tradition at the ADCCs that the winners of the absolute weight division of the two prior ADCC events meet head to head in a superfight at the current ADCC World Championships. As Roger Gracie won the open weight division at the event in 2005 and Dean Lister won it in 2003, the two were supposed to meet this coming weekend in the 2007 ADCCs in New Jersey.

We recently learned that Dean Lister was not going to be able to compete this year as he’d torn his bicep and required surgery. It was announced within the last couple of weeks that his replacement was going to be Ricardo Arona, who actually won the open division in 2001.

However it seems that fate is out to foil any such plans, as Kid Peligro is reporting that Arona is now hospitalized with dengue fever. Who will Roger fight come this Sunday? Some have already begun to throw around names like Jeff Monson.

If the ADCC organizers were too timid to ask, I am ready to stand in for Lister and Arona. I tend to compete about once annually just to be able to claim I still do but heck, with the prize money for first place in the superfight being $40,000 and the second place prize being $10,000, I think I’m up for it!
