A Clarification on Our Listenership and The Mighty 600,000

March 24, 2007

As many of “The 600,000″ know, we refer to our fan base here on The FightWorks Podcast as, well, “The 600,000″. The name came about way back in one of our earliest episodes, somewhere before Episode 10, when we joked about having 60,000 listeners. A listener wrote to us and called us out on it, and we joked that we were mistaken - we’d left off a zero and it was actually 600,000!

Ever since then we’ve called our listeners “The 600,000″. Of course we were only playing in both cases. I don’t think there are 600,000 people who take part in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the whole planet. I could be wrong. But that is a ton of people.

It came to our attention recently that there may be folks out there who take us literally when we refer to The 600,000 that way, thinking that there really are 600,000 listeners to our show. So, just for the record: we don’t have that many listeners. We have a lot. But not that many. :)

New Host for Our Site; Good Riddance Blogger!

February 21, 2007

As you may have noticed, we’ve moved away from our old home on the web on Blogger.com. We will no longer be producing new content there. So if any of you out there have ever linked to us at that domain, it’d be great if you could change those links to their updated address at thefightworkspodcast.com.

So long Blogger! I won’t miss you! The unexplained outages were really too much. I know, I really shouldn’t complain considering it was free, but when anything is a Google product I expect more from it.

I’m not sure if all of our comments ported over when I made the import to the new host. I apologize if we lost your comment along the way!

As you may have also noticed by the banner at the top of the site, I am not what you’d call a graphics guru! If anyone out there has some design skills, shoot me a note using caleb @ fightworks DOT net!

Next Episode on Sunday… Cesar Gracie

January 25, 2007

Co-host of The FightWorks Podcast Dan and I spoke today with the very busy Cesar Gracie, who spent some time discussing his arrival in the United States way back when, his very sought-after stable of fighters, and his take on today’s very busy MMA scene. Though Dan and I asked Cesar to make sure he spoke up before the tape started rolling, Cesar was a little on the lower side of volume, shall we say (didn’t seem to work for Yamasaki either!).

In other news, On The Mat’s Gumby is heading to Portugal for the CBJJ European Championships at this very moment! The lineup of competitors is very exciting, and includes the likes of Rafael Lovato Jr., Xande Ribeiro, Lagarto, and more. Keep an eye on On The Mat.com for news on that soon.

Holiday away message & On The Mat takes over big media

December 13, 2006

Just a quick note to let all of “The 600,000″ know that The FightWorks Podcast will be on sabbatical through the end of the year. That’s my fancy and elusive way of saying I have so much going on with work, the holidays, and more work, that it’s going to be tough to put on a show for a bit. So I hope to post now and again, but podcast episodes are likely not going to appear for a few weeks.

In other - and much more exciting news - On The Mat’s Gumby was recently interviewed by USA Today in an article about the rise in popularity of mixed martial arts! Okay, so OTM hasn’t “taken over” big media yet, but I take that as a sign that it’s only a matter of time. And I just wanted to post that because Gumby has been either to busy or too humble to do it himself, and I thought it was pretty cool.
