The earthquake that hit San Diego and measured 7.2 on the Richter scale on Sunday was actually not the most jarring event for local jiu-jitsu school owner Rob Lovi. A car struck the front of Lovi’s Adams Avenue academy last Thursday, smashing the front of the school and causing severe damage to the premises.

“At first I thought it was an April Fool’s Day joke,” said Lovi, who stated that everything inside the small academy was ruined, including the inventory of gis. The car that struck the building drove away immediately after destroying the front of the school. The owner of the vehicle was reportedly tracked down and found to be intoxicated at home. The woman claimed innocence and says that her car must have been stolen when the accident occurred.

Lovi is determined to rebuild and begin offering jiu-jitsu to the community again. “I’m a little guy. I’ve been mounted, I’ve been swept. [Adversity] isn’t anything I haven’t been through before. This is just one more fight.”

Please head over to the school’s website for more details and information on how you can help.
