The Martin Rooney interview was one of the best interviews I've ever heard. It gave me chills. After listening, I decided to more concretely put down my goals for the year.

My overall objective is to get better at Jiu Jitsu. This will be achived through three actions:
1) Get stronger - initiate a weight training regime under a personal trainer to achive a 15% increase in strength objectives (e.g., deadlift, front squat, ect) by Dec 2010.

2) Improve my wrestling, judo and guard passing. These areas are my weakest, so I will be training with an Olympic medalist judoka and a national champion wrestler. In class I am focusing on sweeps, guard passing and guard retention.

3) Win a tournament. Get a new belt. Bask in glory as women throw themselves at me and men line up to shake my hand.
3a) bonus goal: listen to the fightworks podcast every week

Generally, my goal for this year is to incorporate more core related strength training into my BJJ regiment. More specifically however I want to be able to do 10 unassisted hand stand push ups while starting from the kneeling position. 10 is just an arbitrary number though, because the first one is proving difficult, you see I can't do a handstand either. Oh well, no rush really I'm just looking forward to another great year of training.

By the way, each week I feel like Ralphy on A Christmas Story waiting for Little Orphan Annie while I'm waiting to get your show, thanks for all the work you do!

I have two goals this year: (1) achieve a weight below 175 lbs by my 35th birthday and maintain below 180lbs throughout the rest of the year and (2) keep training minimum 3 times a week in order to earn my blue belt by 2011 (I've been training like this already for a year now already, so I think this is realistic).
