Tip: bolt your safe into the floor/wall if you must have one (and don’t fucking tell anybody… ), and respect the FDIC insuring any bank account up to $100,000. Not trusting the bank is all fine and dandy, but if the FDIC welshes, the USD is going to be worthless anyway so stashing your cash at home isn’t going to do shit for you unless you keep a bunch of different currencies or gold/jewels/etc. If you’re going to be paranoid, at least do it properly.

I think, as this forum commenter points out, it's not too uncommon for immigrant folks to opt to keep their savings at home. In any case it's a shame.

Really sad to hear that. People are awful.

Why wasn’t that money in a bank? This could of all been somewhat avoided if at least a good amount of money had been in a savings account rather than in cash inside a safe.
