It’s not long now! The 2009 BJJ Pan-Ams take place March 27-29 at California State University Dominguez Hills, in Carson, California. First held in 1996, the Pan-Ams are historically the second most important jiu-jitsu competition in North America, drawing competitors from far and wide.
So which team do you think will come in first place this year? Here’s a little perspective for you in terms of past performance:
2008:
1st – Alliance
2nd – Gracie Barra
3rd – Brasa
2007:
1- Gracie Barra
2- Alliance
3- Brasa
2006:
1st – Gracie Barra
2nd – Saulo Ribeiro
3rd – Alliance

Caleb, keep an eye on this. Hopefully it will materialize into something good. It looks like a new team is forming. BJJ Force is the name. Right now the competitor list shows only one person under this name but I have heard rumors that a few schools are coming together to make this team. I am sure that if it shows well through the Pan AMs it will be a name to be reckoned with in the future.
Its all a tough call with the team championships. I’ve been really impressed with check mat, and im anxious to see what comes out of the Former Brasa team camp. I think Alliance takes it though.
If Alliance shows up with the talent they have been producing over the past few years at these major tournaments, I don’t even think Gracie Barra is going to be able to touch them.
gracie humaita has got this in the bag!!! watch out everybody ; )
