As we mentioned back in our play by play of the 2008 BJJ Mundials, the United States Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation announced its first steps in formalizing its membership during the Mundials on Sunday.
About half way throught the day, the action stopped and approximately thirty black belt instructors who have been formally recognized by the USBJJF were presented with official certificates and identification cards. Based on the expiration date that appears in the lower right of the ID card and shows the date 12/31/2008, it is probably safe to say that the cards may need to be renewed on an annual basis.
Similar cards are already issued to members of the national BJJ federations in Brazil, France, Portugal, Japan, and Canada and must be presented when competing at IBJJF events like the Pan-Ams and Mundials.
IBJJF Event Coordinator Mike Buckels was nice enough to let me take shots of the certificate and ID he received that day to share!
