This was a really cool interview with Kyra Gracie Guimarães. Maybe it was a mix up in translation, but Kyra said that she was the first female Gracie to earn her black belt. I know she is the first female Gracie to compete, but according to an article that appeared in the April 1997 issue of Black Belt Magazine, it states that Karla Gracie (Carlos Gracie’s daughter, Kyra’s great-aunt) was the first female family member to earn her black belt. In another interview Carley Gracie stated that all of Carlos Gracie’s children trained in jiu-jitsu.
