by Caleb on April 14, 2007

Today a total of $4,000 was on the line in the U.S. Pro Trials of submission grappling at the Grapplers Quest event held in Las Vegas. Each of the below won $1,000 for their efforts:

  • Mens’ Flyweight Division: Robson Moura (Nova Uniao) beat Wilson Reis (Godoi JJ) by heelhook
  • Mens’ Lightweight Division: Lucas Leite (Brasa) beat Bill “The Grill” Cooper (Paragon JJ) by a score of 6-2
  • Mens’ Middleweight Division: Pablo Popovitch defeats Saulo Ribeiro (Royler Gracie) by advantage
  • Mens’ Cruiserweight Division: Rick Macauley (Team Balance) beats beat Eduardo Telles (Carlos Valente) by 3 advantage points. Telles narrowly escaped a heel hook earlier in the match

In a rematch of their earlier encounter only weeks prior, Scott Bieri (Cobra Kai) beat Ryan Hall (Lloyd Irvin) 4-0 . For in-depth details of the Pro Divisions, check out Gumby’s write-up.

Overall, the event contained 12 mats of action. A hiccup occurred when the advanced division began hours earlier than scheduled, and some competitors missed their match times.

Jeff Monson did not participate in the Pro Trials, likely due to a prior obligations that precluded an early commitment. Monson did win his division though.

Sim “The Bear Tamer” Go won his division as well.

Thanks to Alicia Anthony of Alicia Photos for these results!

Update 4/15/07 10:35AM PST: The reason Jeff Monson didn’t compete in the U.S. Pro Trials was because there was no weight division there for him! His winning his division earns him a place in the USA trials for upcoming international competition. Thanks to Gumby for the tip!
