The Gracie Fighting Championships event that was to be held in Miami earlier this year has now been rescheduled. It was postponed in January when the UFC swooped in with an event in the same town on the same weekend . The GFC has announced that they’ve rescheduled for May 19th in the Value City Arena in Ohio.

Wes Sims will face Jeff Monson. Monson recently lost to Tim Sylvia, who has physical proportions similar to Wes Sims. Monson, a gifted grappler, will have another chance to take on a fighter of that size.

In addition to Thomas “The Wildman” Denny and Chris “The Westside Strangler” Brennan, the promoters have also alluded to Ronaldo “Jacare” Dos Souza Santos also remaining on the original card. Many stateside Brazilian jiu-jitsu fans are eagerly anticipating seeing Jacare in MMA action after his noteworthy BJJ performances. Jacare won the 2004 BJJ black belt world championship in the open weight category after not tapping when Roger Gracie broke his arm with an armbar.

BJJ fans will also be excited to hear that grappling superstar Marcelo Garcia will make his MMA debut. He will be going against David Avellan of Miami, listed as 1-0-1 in MMA by Sherdog.
