Roger Gracie triumphs in MMA debut

by Caleb on December 2, 2006

Reports coming from British Columbia relate that Roger Gracie, BJJ champion and son of Mauricio Motta Gomes, has beaten 41 year old veteran Ron Waterman. Waterman, a tough opponent who holds wins over the likes of Ricco Rodriguez, submitted via armbar to Roger, who was coached by family member Renzo Gracie, in 3:38 of the first round.

The interesting thing will be to see what Roger’s next step is. Does this represent a commitment to a full time mixed martial arts career? If he isn’t obliged to, will he continue with BodogFight? If he is going to continue in MMA, does this mean he will be spending more time training in New York City, away from his jiu-jitsu school in London?
